We Must Cultivate Compassion

We will never be whole and healed until we treat all of God’s creatures with Loving Compassion

As we get to know each creature, human or other, we know ourselves more deeply. I struggle with killing insects on my home or workplace. It makes me less as I shorten the already short life of the house fly. Please discuss how you think about this type of event.

      Hi Charlene,
I try to avoid hurting anything, yet I still kill insects when I am driving and sometimes kill spiders which have invaded my home. I also set up boric acid for trespassing ants and apple cider vinegar traps for fruit flies. I do not like harming any of these tiny creatures but I do ask them to leave before taking action. I don’t use poisons on our food or in the house, despite the continual barrage of pest-control salesmen.

I think we need to do the best we can to preserve all life, but we also have a right to live in a space which is insect and arachnid free. I try to return everything I can to the outdoors, but sometimes the critters just do not cooperate. We could drive ourselves crazy if we considered how many millions of bacteria we kill each time we shower, but I, for one, have no desire to skip this daily ritual.

So, I said that to say this: I think each moment of life is a balancing act. We do the best we can and move to the next instant.

      Love you,
      Elliott
